Caesar Files exhibition in Rostock on torture in SyriaIn Rostock, from September 12 to 14 2019, images of torture victims in Syria, the so-called Caesar Files, were shown for the first time in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Over 100 visitors saw the exhibition over three days.
The exhibition will be repeated from September 26 to 28, 2019 in Greifswald in the Koeppenhaus. "The exhibition helped us to contact Syrian families in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, whose family members were or are detained in Syria," said Ibrahim Al-Kasim, human rights lawyer and initiator of the exhibition. "It was a good opportunity for us to talk to Syrians and Germans from MV. We were able to provide a lot of information about the human rights situation in Syria." The Caesar Files are a collection of images of people tortured to death, mainly taken in Syrian prisons. Lawyer Al-Kasim gave an insight into the work of the "war crimes unit" of the Federal Prosecutor's Office and its investigation of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed under Assad and the importance of the Caesar Files. In addition, he advised those affected about legal actions. At the end of the exhibition, the film "Witnesses against Assad" was shown and a film discussion was held with the protagonist Khaled Rawas, who lives in Wismar. "Given these disturbing images and the certainty that people, including women and children, are still being held, tortured and killed by the Assad regime, it is incomprehensible and completely irresponsible like German politicians can speak about safe areas in Syria, "said Hanna Berth, one of the supporters from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
